As part of the 2nd year of my BUT in Computer Science at IUT Lyon 1 (Bourg-en-Bresse campus), I completed a 12-week internship at My Lucky Day, a Lyon-based company specialized in mobile app development. My main mission: the complete redesign of the YouDrive app, built for Direct Assurance / AXA.
Project goal
The YouDrive app analyzes users' driving style to offer discounts on their car insurance. Originally built natively (Swift/Kotlin), the app suffered from maintenance, performance and code-clarity issues. Our goal was therefore to start from scratch, using Flutter to unify the Android and iOS versions.
Work done
I worked in a pair with another intern under the lead developer's supervision. Here are some of my tasks:
- Extending the MVVM/MVI architecture with Riverpod
- Building the main screens: score, trips, savings, offers, connected device
- Integrating several native SDKs through
MethodChannel - Displaying GPS maps with custom markers
- Handling navigation with GoRouter
Technical challenges
Several technical aspects pushed me to progress quickly:
- Building the Flutter views
- Fetching and processing data from third-party APIs
- Creating custom sliders in Flutter
- Optimizing loading and caching performance
- Understanding and fixing Android/iOS permission issues
Results & takeaways
This project made me operational in Flutter, taught me modern mobile architectures, and strengthened my teamwork skills. The quality of the work was praised by the CTO, and the app is now faster, more maintainable, and much better received by users.
Video presentation of the app
Here is the official video produced by AXA to introduce the YouDrive app:
